Madonna del Ghisallo Pendant

The Madonna del Ghisallo is widely known the patron saint of cyclists. There is a small chapel in Lombardy where in medieval times, the count of Ghisallo encountered a vision of the Virgin Mary while he was being attacked by bandits, thus saving his life. Since then, the Madonna became the patron saint of travelers. In 1949, a local priest proposed that she be declared the patroness of cyclists, and the chapel was added to the route of the famous Giro di Lombardia bicycle race.  Today, the chapel houses a small museum with photos and artifacts from the sport.

Given the storied history behind these little pendants, we wear one daily to protect us from errant drivers.
