Without question, this is the best book ever written on bike racing. In the syllabus of cycling, The Rider is an absolute essential.
First published in 1978, Dutch author Tim Krabbé takes us through a grueling race that is over before we even get our bearings. (Fittingly, the race is 140 kilometers, which equates to about a page/km in this quick read.) The preparation, strategy, pain, suffering, danger and thrill of racing are all relayed here with precision and - most of all - passion.
By the end, you'll feel as if you've completed the race yourself. The Rider stands up to multiple readings, and at the start of each season you'll always find it in our book bag.
